2011 Flood Assistance

On August 26, Governor Tom Corbett issued a Governor's Proclamation of Emergency for Hurricane Irene.  That Proclamation remains in effect for least 90 days and, therefore, there was no need to issue a Proclamation for Tropical Storm Lee.

There is no "state" disaster assistance program.  Governor Corbett made requests for federal assistance for Tropical Storm Lee.

Our community continues to recover from Tropical Storm Lee. A Federal Emergency Protective Measure has been declared, and an Emergency Declaration was granted for more than 42 Pennsylvania counties, including Berks, Chester, Dauphin, Lancaster and Lebanon. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is authorized to provide appropriate assistance to save lives and to protect property and public health and safety, or to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe.

Individual Assistance

Federal Disaster Assistance is assistance for damage to private property (homes, private driveways, businesses, etc.) and is called "Individual Assistance" or "IA."

Individuals are urged to begin the process by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).

Public Infrastructure Assistance

Federal Disaster Assistance is assistance for damage to "public infrastructure" (e.g. bridges, roads, etc.) and is called "Public Assistance" or "PA."  FEMA typically requires a state to meet its state per capita threshold and for each county seeking assistance to also meet its county per capita threshold.

Preliminary Damage Assessments (PDAs) are being conducted.  Once the damage information is complete, there will be a request for federal assistance for the Commonwealth.

Additional Disaster Relief Information

A Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) in our area has been opened at the Harrisburg Mall, located at 3501 Paxton Street, in Harrisburg. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and you may visit this location regardless of where you live.  To expedite the process, you may first call FEMA: 1-800-651-FEMA (3362) to enter your information into the system.  You are not required to call before going to the DRC, but it speeds up the process.  The DRCs are first come, first serve.

You may register for disaster assistance online at DisasterAssistance.gov; the screens will prompt you through the registration process.

It is anticipated FEMA and PEMA will announce additional DRC locations soon. My office will continue to update you.
