HARRISBURG — Bucks County lawmakers will host three local events in October and November to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the conflict in Vietnam and honor veterans who served during that time period, according to Senator Chuck McIlhinney (R-10).
The commemorative events will be held in conjunction with the Department of Defense as part of a nationwide tribute to Vietnam veterans. A special Vietnam veteran’s lapel pin has been produced as part of the program and will be distributed to attending veterans and widows of Vietnam veterans.
“The heroes who served during Vietnam faced incredible dangers,” McIlhinney said. “In many cases, returning veterans were not given the respect they deserved following their service. I am hopeful that these events will serve as a reminder that their efforts are deeply appreciated.”
Sen. McIlhinney and Reps. John Galloway, Scott Petri and Steve Santarsiero will host the first event on October 13 at 7 p.m. at American Legion Post 317, 215 South Main Street in Yardley.
Along with Reps. Marguerite Quinn, Scott Petri and Bernie O’Neill, McIlhinney will host the second event on October 27 at 7 p.m. at the Plumsteadville Volunteer Fire Company located at 5064 Stump Road in Plumsteadville.
The third event will be hosted by McIlhinney and Rep. Katherine Watson and Bernie O’Neill on November 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Byers Choice located at 4355 County Line Road in Chalfont.
In order to be recognized at one of the events and receive the commemorative pin, a recipient must be a United States military veteran who served on active duty at any time during the period of November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975, regardless of stationing location. Attendees must register online at www.senatormcilhinney.com/Vietnam-veterans-50th/ or by calling the senator’s district office at 215-489-5000.
