Important Well Water Contamination Update for Plumstead
Township
According to the state Department of Environmental
Protection (DEP), water from two Plumstead Township ponds were recently
contaminated with chemicals due to firefighting water runoff as a result of
the June 29 fire on Stump Road. Several local property owners with private
wells reported contamination of their water supplies. Rep. Marguerite Quinn
and I recently hosted a public meeting with DEP to determine actions that
need to be taken to protect local residents.
Rep. Quinn and I have requested DEP to provide
temporary water supply for day-to-day use for affected families, and the
HSCA program has provided water tankers to connect affected homes to a
temporary supply.
DEP is continuing to study the extent and severity of
the contamination. All public wells are routinely tested for contaminants,
and there has been no contamination reported in the Township's public water
supply. However, it is vital for those with private wells who are in the general vicinity of the fire to observe
water for signs of contamination, such as changes in smell, color, or texture. If you observe a change
in water quality, you should call the Bucks County Department of Health at
(215) 345-3318 to have your name and address added to their test list as
soon as possible.
