Legislation Honors Fallen Bucks County Police Officer

HARRISBURG – Legislation that would name the Newtown 413 bypass in honor of fallen Bucks County Police Officer Brian Gregg was signed into law on Thursday, according to Sen. Chuck McIlhinney (R-Bucks and Montgomery).

Newtown Police Officer Gregg was shot and killed in the line of duty on September 29, 2005, at St. Mary's Medical Center when a prisoner was able to gain access to his partner's service weapon. House Bill 1723 will be named the Officer Brian Gregg Memorial Bypass in his honor.

"Officer Gregg served with extraordinary valor, and his courageous service was truly a credit to all who proudly wear a police uniform," McIlhinney said. "We were fortunate to have a man of his character serving in Bucks County, and his loss was a terrible tragedy for the entire community as a whole."

In June, the Senate unanimously approved legislation sponsored by McIlhinney to name the bypass in honor of Officer Gregg. The language from McIlhinney's bill was amended into another highway-naming bill in the Senate to ensure final passage before the end of the legislative session, McIlhinney said.
